6, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College Shorewomen dropped a pair of Centennial Conference games to visiting Western Maryland today in Chestertown. The Green Terror (13-3, 6-0 Centennial Conference) downed the Shorewomen (7-10-1, 3-5) 7-0 in the first game and 8-0 in the second game. Western Maryland scored a run in the first and three each in the fourth and seventh innings in the first game. The three runs in the seventh came on back-to-back home runs by Lauren Cramer and Selena Smart. Cramer and Smart each finished with two runs scored and two RBI. Samantha Abrams got the win, allowing two hits and one walk, while scoring two runs to help her own cause. Junior Alexis Stapanon (Lexington, MD/Great Mills) and sophomore Renee Springston (Pasadena, MD/North East) each had a base hit for WC in the first game. In the second game, the Green Terror scored two runs in the first, five in the third, and one in the fourth. Candice Kuligowski went three-for-four with two runs scored and an RBI to lead the Western Maryland cause. Kim Camponelli allowed six hits and one walk and struck out six battersin five innings of work. Senior outfielder Michelle Rodney (Rock Hall, MD/Kent County) went two-for-three in the second game to lead the Shorewomen. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference double-header at Ursinus. |
