Shorewomen Split with Wesley
Second Game Limited to Five Innings

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College Shorewomen split a pair of non-conference games with Wesley College this afternoon in Chestertown. The Wolverines won the first game, 4-1, but the Shorewomen bounced back to win the second game, 3-2. The second game was called after five innings due to darkness.

Wesley took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of the first game when Colleen Joyce scored on a throwing error. The Shorewomen evened the score in the bottom of the inning when junior secondbaseman Julie Bahus (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Spalding) bunted with the bases loaded. Junior Christie Allebach (Telford, PA/Souderton Area) beat the throw home on the play and Bahus reached first on the fielder's choice. The Shorewomen later ended the inning with the bases loaded.

Neither team scored again until the top of the seventh. Wesley scored its second run of the game when Christina Cline scored on a passed ball. Stefany Tiberi came across for the Wolverines' third run on another passed ball and Joyce later scored on an error to tack on the fourth run for Wesley. Tiberi, who allowed four hits and two walks in getting the win, retired the Shorewomen in order in the bottom of the seventh.

In the second game, the Shorewomen put two runs on the board in the bottom of the second. Senior outfielder Michelle Rodney (Rock Hall, MD/Kent County) led off the inning with a single and later scored when sophomore firstbaseman Fallon Dillon (Grasonville, MD/Queen Anne's County) reached on an error. Dillon would come around two batters later on an RBI single by junior outfielder Cate Johnson (Hurlock, MD/North Dorchester).

Wesley scored a run in the third when Mary Kaminski scored on a sacrifice fly by Donica Mayhew. The Wolverines tied the score in the top of the fourth when Jessi Smith scored on a fielder's choice. In the bottom of the inning, Rodney led off with a double. Two batters later, she advanced to third on a Dillon single and scored after a throwing error on the same play. Neither team scored in the fifth inning and the umpires halted the game before the sixth.

Senior Allison Weisbrod (Montville, NJ/Mt. St. Dominic) picked up the win in the second game, allowing one hit, walking three batters, and hitting one batter in four innings of work. Junior Alexis Stapanon (Lexington, MD/Great Mills) pitched a perfect one-two-three inning in the fifth to pick up the save.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. home Centennial Conference doubleheader against Western Maryland.
