10, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College Shorewomen split a pair of non-conference games with visiting Villa Julie this afternoon at the WC Softball Field. The Shorewomen (8-13-1) won the first game, 9-3, but dropped the second game, 4-2. In the first game, the Mustangs (4-20) led 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, but the Shorewomen rallied for three runs in the inning to tie the game. WC then got two runs across in the fifth to go up 5-3 and four more runs in the sixth. Senior outfielder Michelle Rodney (Rock Hall, MD/Kent County) went three-for-four with two runs scored, an RBI, and two stolen bases for the Shorewomen in game one. Freshman Andrea Braverman (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) went four-for-four with a run scored, while junior Julie Bahus (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Spalding) finished two-for-four with two runs scored and two RBI. Villa Julie jumped ahead early in the second game as well, leading 4-0 heading into the bottom of the second. The Shorewomen got a run across in the bottom of the inning and another one in the third, but neither team would score after that and Villa Julie held on for the win. Lesley Winslow and Kristin Keener each went two-for-three for the Mustangs in the contest. Rodney and sophomore Renee Springston (Pasadena, MD/North East) each went two-for-three for WC. Rodney added another pair of stolen bases to finish with four on the day. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home double-header against Muhlenberg, the defending conference champions. |
