13, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College Shorewomen were swept by the defending Centennial Conference Champions, the Muhlenberg College Mules, this afternoon, 6-1 and 3-1. The Shorewomen fall to 8-15-1 overall and 3-9 in conference play, while the Mules improve to 18-10 overall and 10-2 in conference play. The Mules scored three unearned runs in the first inning of game one to pull ahead 3-0. The Shorewomen got on the board in the bottom of the second when freshman Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) scored on an RBI single by sophomore Fallon Dillon (Grasonville, MD/Queen Anne's County), but the Mules got one run across in each of the next three innings to earn the 6-1 win. Scimeca went two-for-three in the first game for WC. Meghan Woods was two-for-two with two walks, an RBI, and two runs scored for the Mules. Danielle DeLucia allowed eight hits and walked none in earning the victory. In game two, the Mules again jumped out to a 3-0 lead, this time in the second inning. Scimeca scored Washington's only run in the fifth when she darted home on a wild pitch. Angela Tyson allowed only three hits and two walks in the win for Muhlenberg. Woods went three-for-three at the plate for the Mules. Dillon allowed just two earned runs on the mound for WC in the second game. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 3:15 p.m. Centennial Conference double-header at Swarthmore. |
