WC Wins One, Ties One
Liccketto Scores Game-Winning Run

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College Shorewomen won one game and tied another today in a doubleheader with visiting Keuka College. The Shorewomen (3-6-1) won the first game, 7-6, but the second game ended in a 5-5 tie due to darkness.

The Shorewomen led 3-1 after four innings and 6-5 after six innings in game one, but the Storm (0-10-1) tied the game in the top of the seventh when Melissa McElwain scored on an RBI single by Christine Lewis. In the bottom of the seventh, WC sophomore outfielder Natalie Liccketto (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights) walked to reach base with one out. During the next at bat, she stole both second and third base and then scored on an error by Keuka catcher Rachel Keefer to win the game.

Freshman Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown), junior Julie Bahus (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Spalding), freshman Andrea Braverman (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown), sophomore Fallon Dillon (Grasonville, MD/Queen Anne's County), and sophomore Leah Littlefield (Upper Marlboro, MD/Queen Anne School) each had two hits for the Shorewomen in the first game. Scimeca had the team's only multi-RBI performance in the game, driving in two runs. Bahus, who started the game at second base, picked up the win on the mound by pitching the final two-third of the seventh.

McElwain, Carrie Diliberto, and Janelle Tauzel each went two-for-four in the opener.

In the second game, the Shorewomen led 4-2 after four innings, but Keuka scored two runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game. In the bottom of the fifth, WC took the lead again when Liccketto singled in sophomore Alexis Stapanon (Lexington Park, MD/Great Mills). The Storm tied the game in the top of the sixth when Tauzel singled in Giget Heale. The Shorewomen went one-to-three in the bottom of the sixth and the game was called due to impending darkness.

Scimeca was three-for-four with an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen bases, while Stapanon was two-for-two with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Sophomore Renee Springston (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) was two-for-three with an RBI and senior Heather Giustiniani (Carmel, NY/Carmel) also went two-for-three. Braverman was two-for-four with a run scored, while Liccketto scored one run, drove in another, and stole a base.

Heale was two-for-four with an RBI and a run scored for Keuka, while Diliberto finished two-for-three with a run scored.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference doubleheader at Franklin & Marshall.
