23, 2002 GETTYSBURG, PA -- The Washington College Shorewomen dropped their first two Centennial Conference games of the season today, falling 1-0 and 9-6 at Gettysburg College. The Shorewomen slipped to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference, while the Bullets remained unbeaten at 10-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The first game was a classic pitchers' duel. Gettysburg scored the only run of the game in the third inning when Mandy Wilson scored on a sacrifice fly by Jackie Pareso. Gettysburg pitcher Lisa von dem Hagen allowed just one Shorewoman hit, a second inning double by freshman shortstop Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown), and struck out 12 batters. Sophomore Fallon Dillon (Grasonville, MD/Queen Anne's County) allowed just four hits on the mound for WC. In the second game, Washington took a 5-1 lead in the top of the third inning, but Gettysburg rallied to score two runs in the bottom of the third, four in the fourth and two in the fifth before the Shorewomen could tack on another run in the ninth. Megan Wargo went four-for-four with four RBI and two runs scored, while Wilson and Adrienne Simmons each went two-for-three for the Bullets. Scimeca and sophomore thirdbaseman Renee Springston (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) each went two-for-three in the game and junior secondbaseman Julie Bahus (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Spalding) scored three runs for Washington. The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with a 2:30 home doubleheader against Keuka. |
