30, 2002 LANCASTER, PA -- The Washington College Shorewomen split a pair of Centennial Conference games with host Franklin & Marshall this afternoon in Lancaster, PA. The Shorewomen won the first game, 1-0, but the Diplomats won the second game 5-3. The Shorewomen are now 4-7-1 overall this season and 1-3 in conference play, while the Diplomats are 8-9 and 1-1. Senior pitcher Allison Weisbrod (Montville, NJ/Mount St. Dominic) pitched a one-hitter in the first game, striking out three batters and walking none. Weisbord threw five no-hit innings before Angela Flouras singled to lead off the sixth and become the Diplomats' lone base-runner. The Shorewomen's run came in the fourth inning. Junior secondbaseman Julie Bahus (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Spalding) reached on a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice, advanced to third on an error, and then scored on an RBI single by sophomore thirdbaseman Renee Springston (Pasadena, MD/Northeast). In the second game, Franklin & Marshall led 4-0 until the fifth inning when WC freshman shortstop Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) hit a three-run home run to cut the lead to one. F&M added a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Jen Fried to make the score 5-3. The Shorewomen had runners on second and third in the seventh inning, but could not get either across the plate. Scimeca went three-for-four with three RBI and a run scored in the second game. Sophomores Leah Littlefield (Upper Marlboro, MD/Queen Anne School) and Natalie Liccketto (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights) scored on Scimeca's homer. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 3:00 Centennial Conference home doubleheader against Haverford. |
