2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Swarthmore College defeated host Washington College, 3-0, in a Centennial Conference women's soccer game tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Garnet improved to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 1-8 and 0-3. Maggie DeLorme gave the Garnet a 1-0 lead with a blast from outside the box at 10:15. Swarthmore registered all six of the first-half shots. Swarthmore made it 2-0 when Emily Coleman scored after receiving a pass from Laura Bolger at 61:05. Maddie Williams tacked on the Garnet's third goal off an assist from Taylor Rhodes at 84:46. The goals was the first collegiate tallies for Coleman and Williams. Junior goalkeeper Caroline Grier (Kennett Square, PA/Sanford School, DE) played the first half in goal for the Shorewomen, making one save and allowing one goal. Freshman goalkeeper Tori Ripple (Baltimore, MD/John Carroll) played the second half, making eight saves and allowing two goals. Lauren Walker made one save in goal for the Garnet. Swarthmore held a 17-5 advantage in shots in the game. Each team had two corner kicks in the game. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. home game against Hood. |
