25, 2007 SWARTHMORE, PA -- Host 19th-ranked Swarthmore College scored three goals in the second half to pull away from visiting Washington College in a 4-0 Centennial Conference women's soccer game tonight on Clothier Field. The Garnet improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 0-9 and 0-3 with the loss. Swarthmore got on the board quickly when Danielle Tocchet scored off an assist from Julia Luongo at 3:21 following a Garnet corner kick. The Washington defense then stood fast as the Garnet got off 27 shots in the first half, but could not score again before the break. Washington College senior Megan Russell (Federalsburg, MD/Seaford Christian, DE), making just her second career appearance in goal, made 11 saves in the opening 45 minutes. The Garnet finally struck again at 52:29 as Katie Kanuka headed in a cross from Kristen Peterson. Kanuka scored her second goal at 55:53 off a feed ahead from Megan Colombo. Polombo made it 4-0, knocking in a loose ball at 60:57, to round out the scoring. Swarthmore held a 42-1 advantage in shots in the game. The Garnet also recorded all seven corner kicks in the game. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. game at Delaware Valley. |
