8, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- Host Methodist University scored two goals in each half en route to a 4-0 win over visiting Washington College in a non-conference women's soccer game this afternoon in Fayetteville, NC. The Monarchs improved to 2-0 with the win, while the Shorewomen slipped to 0-4 with the loss. Methodist got on the board quickly as Whitney Roberson scored off a double assist from Ashley Kolano and Chrystal Bradley at 5:30. The Monarchs tacked on their second goal of the first half at 33:10 as Hevyn Diers knocked in an unassisted tally. The score remained 2-0 until the 66th minute when Bradley assisted on a goal by Brianna Cella to make it 3-0 at 65:52. Methodist's final goal came at the 70:40 mark when Emily Stratton scored on a Christina Varnell assist. Kasey Nichols made three saves for Methodist to pick up the shutout. Sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Grier (Kennett Square, PA/Sanford School, DE) matched her career high with 17 saves in the loss for Washington. Methodist held a 33-4 advantage in shots in the game. Junior forward Sarah Yarbrough (Golden, CO/Arvada West) accounted for half of the Shorewomen's four shots. Methodist also recorded eight of the game's nine corner kicks. The Shorewomen return to action Monday with a 4:00 p.m. game at Notre Dame (MD). |
