13, 2007 GETTYSBURG, PA -- Kelly Vigna scored the first and what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the 20th minute as host Gettysburg downed visiting Washington College, 5-0, Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference women's soccer action. The Bullets improve to 4-9-1 overall and 3-3 in the conference, while the Shorewomen fall to 1-13 and 0-6 respectively. The Bullets took a 1-0 lead 19:34 into the contest as Vigna took a through pass from Shaina Wright and slipped it past sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Grier (Kennett Square, PA/Sanford School (DE)) from the top of the 18-yard box. Gettysburg netted four goals in the second half to break open a 1-0 halftime lead. Colleen Stuart made it 2-0, just 73 seconds into the second half when she pounced on a rebound of Wright's shot in the goalmouth and punched it into the open net. Caitlin McCarthy made it 3-0 when she corralled an Erin Miller shot off the right post and put it into an open net from the left side of the goalmouth. Paige Gaeng made it 4-0 when she scored off of a Jordan Smak pass from near the penalty stripe and put it into the lower left corner. Kelly Burke capped the scoring when she collected a Mara Dold pass from in front of the goal. The Bullets outshot the Shorewomen, 32-4, in the contest. Danielle St. Pierre made four saves in the shutout for Gettysburg, while Grier made nine saves for Washington. The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Haverford. |
