10, 2007 BALTIMORE, MD -- Stephani Jones netted two goals in the second half as the College of Notre Dame (MD) downed visiting Washington College, 3-1, on Monday afternoon on at Alumnae Field. All four goals were tallied in the second half. Jones netted the first goal in the 62nd minute from an Anne Shippen feed. Jones gave the Gators a 2-0 lead at the 64:51 mark from a Christina Miedzinski pass. Senior back Lindsay Fox (Laurel, MD/Atholton) got the Shorewomen on the board at the 71:46 mark on a free kick that went off the hands of the Notre Dame (1-2) goalkeeper, Ashleigh Johnson. The Gators recaptured a two goal lead seven minutes later when Lauren Terry netted a goal from 30 yards out on a chip. In the first half, the Shorewomen had the best chance to break the scoreless tie with 2:34 remaining in the first half when senior midfielder Katie Kirlin (West Chester, PA/Villa Maria Academy) rang a shot off the left post off of a cornerkick. Washington (0-5) outshot the Gators, 13-3 in the opening 45 minutes. In the second half, the Shorewomen had three shots hit the crossbar.. Johnson made 11 saves in the victory for the Gators, while sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Grier (Kennett Square, PA/Sanford School, DE) made one stop for Washington. Washington held a 28-8 advantage in shots and a 9-2 edge in corner kicks. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 6:00 p.m. game against visiting Johns Hopkins in the Centennial Conference opener for Washington. The Gators host Cabrini on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. |
