1, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's soccer team played to a 0-0 double-overtime tie with visiting Wesley College on the first day of the Washington College Kick-Off Classic tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The game, which was also part of Jammin Jesse's Opening Weekend, was the season opener for both teams. The last scoring chance of the day came when WC junior midfielder Erin Beskid (Centreville, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul) had a shot saved by Wesley goalkeeper Brittany Block with 34 seconds left in the second overtime. Wesley's final shot of the contest came just 31 seconds into the first overtime when Deanna Evans had her shot stopped by Washington freshman goalkeeper Caroline Grier (Kennett Square, PA/Sanford School, DE). Grier made five saves for the Shorewomen, while Block finished with six for the Wolverines. Washington held a 17-9 advantage in shots in the game, including a 12-3 advantage after the first half. Wesley recorded all three of the game's corner kicks. In today's other Washington College Kick-Off Classic game, Marymount and Notre Dame (MD) played to a 2-2 tie. Marymount rallied from a 2-0 first half deficit and tied the game in the 86th minute on a goal by Dana Zalowski. Both coaches agreed to forego overtime due to windy and wet conditions. Marymount will play Wesley at 1:00 p.m. and the Shorewomen will take on College of Notre Dame (MD) at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow in the Washington College Kick-Off Classic. |
