Russell Nets Hat Trick in 3-1 Victory
Shorewomen Win at Goucher

TOWSON, MD -- Junior forward Megan Russell (Federalsburg, MD/Seaford Christian Academy, DE) scored a career-high three goals to lead visiting Washington College past host Goucher College, 3-1, in a non-conference women's soccer game today at Beldon Field. The Shorewomen improved to 3-2-1 with the win, while the Gophers fell to 1-3 with the loss.

Goucher scored first in the game when Katie Miller netted a goal off an assist from Lindsey Henley at 19:09. The Shorewomen evened the score before halftime as Russell scored her first goal of the game off an assist from junior midfielder Katie Kirlin (West Chester, PA/Villa Maria Academy) at 21:37. The assist was the first of Kirlin's collegiate career.

Washington took the lead for good early in the second half as Russell scored her second goal, this time off an assist from sophomore forward Sarah Yarbrough (Golden, CO/Arvada West), at 47:04. Russell's third goal came at 61:51. Freshman midfielder Lindsay Massari (Carneys Point, NJ/Penns Grove) was credited with her first collegiate assist on Russell's third goal.

Russell's hat trick represents the most goals scored in a game by one Shorewoman since Laura Mozzer netted a school-record four goals in a 9-0 win over Mount St. Mary (NY) on September 4, 2004. Russell is just the fifth Shorewoman to score at least three goals in a game since Washington added women's soccer as a varsity sport for the 1998 season.

Freshman goalkeeper Caroline Grier (Kennett Square, PA/Sanford School, DE) made two saves in the win for Washington. Stephanie Rickkets played the first 69:29 in goal for the Gophers and made nine saves. Bri Girard played the final 20:31 in goal for Goucher and made five saves.

The Shorewomen held a commanding 29-5 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Shorewomen return to action Friday with a 7:00 p.m. game at Marymount.
