Yarbrough's PK Gives WC Win in OT
Shorewomen Top Notre Dame (MD), 3-2

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Sophomore forward Sarah Yarbrough (Golden, CO/Arvada West) scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick 19 seconds into overtime as host Washington College defeated visiting College of Notre Dame (MD), 3-2, in the final game of the Washington College Kick-Off Classic this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Kick-Off Classic was part of Washington's Jammin Jesse's Opening Weekend.

Notre Dame (0-1-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half as Stephani Jones dribbled past a defender for a goal at 31:19 and Megan Quigg booted in a loose ball at 41:55. The Shorewomen (1-0-1) cut the lead to one before the half as Yarbrough passed ahead of Notre Dame goalkeeper Courtney Zgraggen to junior forward Megan Russell (Federalsburg, MD/Seaford Christian Academy, DE) at 44:31 for Washington's first goal of the game.

Yarbrough found Russell again for the game-tying goal at 52:37. Yarbrough sent a cross into the box for Russell, who notched her second goal of the game. The score remained tied until Yarbrough's game-winner at 90:19.

Freshman goalkeeper Caroline Grier (Kennett Square, PA/Sanford School, DE) made six saves in the win for Washington, while Zgraggen recorded 10 saves for the Gators.

Washington held a 16-10 advantage in shots, while Notre Dame maintained a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.

In today's other game of the Washington College Kick-Off Classic, Wesley scored all three of its goals in the first 32 minutes in a 3-0 shutout of Marymount.

The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. game at Rowan.
