2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Bryn Mawr College netted the game-winning goal in the 71st minute of a 2-1 Centennial Conference women's soccer win over host Washington College this evening on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. Bryn Mawr (6-10-1, 1-9 Centennial) took a 1-0 lead on the first shot of the game as Wallis Romzek scored off a pass ahead from Jess Nishiguchi at 3:32. Romzek's goal proved to be the only goal of the first half. Washington (3-11-1, 0-9) tied the score at the 57:20 mark as sophomore forward Sarah Yarbrough (Golden, CO/Arvada West) beat her defender and blasted in a goal from 30 yards out. The Owls regained the lead for good at 70:48 when Romzek found Akua Nyame-Mensah, who broke free and scored. Collette Pullion made four saves for Bryn Mawr, while freshman goalkeeper Caroline Grier (Kennett Square, PA/Sanford School, DE) made six stops for the Shorewomen. Washington held a 12-11 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with a 4:00 p.m. home game against Delaware Valley. |
