September 3, 2005 BALTIMORE, MD -- Wesley College posted a 2-1 victory over Washington College in women's soccer today in the final game of the Notre Dame Kick-Off Classic in Baltimore, MD. The Wolverines improved to 2-0 on the season with the win, while the Shorewomen slipped to 1-1. Freshman midfielder Sarah Yarbrough (Golden, CO/Arvada West) scored Washington's goal in the loss. Wesley's Kyle Savidge scored the only goal of the first half at the 8:37 mark off a rebound. Neither team scored again until Felina Sachetti knocked in a goal off a feed from Ashley Esinger at 85:56 to put the Wolverines up 2-0. Yarbrough put the Shorewomen on the board soon after with a goal off an assist from senior defender/midfielder Colleen McLoughlin (West Chester, PA/West Chester East) at the 86:34 mark, but Wesley held on for the win. Brittany Block made eight saves for Wesley, while freshman goalkeeper Amanda Frushour (Westminster, MD/South Carroll) made six saves for Washington. Washington held a slim 12-11 advantage in shots. Each team had four corner kicks in the game. The Shorewomen are back in action Wednesday with their home opener, a 4:30 p.m. game against Rowan. |
