September 24, 2005 ASHLAND, VA -- Rachel McLoughlin netted two goals in the first-half and three in the game as the host Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets defeated the visiting Washington College Shorewomen, 4-1, in non-conference collegiate women’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon in Ashland, VA. The Yellow Jackets (3-4) took an early 1-0 advantage when McLoughlin sped past two Washington defenders and placed the ball in the bottom right hand corner of the net past diving WC freshman netminder Amanda Frushour (Westminster, MD/South Carroll) at the 11:44 mark. McLoughlin’s second goal of the contest came at 36:16 after she was fed a pass in the middle of the box from Lacy Phelps. Phelps then went on to add more insurance for Randolph-Macon, scoring her second goal of the season off a pass from Tommie Gearhart at 60:56 . McLoughlin netted her third goal of the contest midway through the second half to put away Washington for good at 62:10. The Shorewomen (1-5) scored their only goal of the game when senior midfielder Stephanie Bradley (Weston, MA/Kimball Union Academy) placed the ball in the upper right hand corner of the net past the Randolph-Macon backup goalkeeper Heather Bleile at the 87:15 mark. Each team took 15 shots in the game, but Randolph-Macon held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. The game marked the final collegiate meeting between Randolph-Macon's McLoughlin and her twin sister, Washington senior defender/midfielder Colleen McLoughlin (West Chester, PA/West Chester East). The Shorewomen return to action one week from today with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Swarthmore. |
