Mozzer's Goal Wins Game in Final Minute
Shoreweomen Defeat Green Terror in Second Overtime

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior forward Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) scored the game-winning goal with :52 left in the second overtime to lift Washington College past Centennial Conference opponent McDaniel, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at Shriver Field.

The victory is the first ever for the Shorewomen soccer program over the Green Terror. Washington had been 0-6 all-time against McDaniel until today's victory.

Washington got on the board first when sophomore Erin Beskid (Centreville, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul) recorded her first collegiate goal, placing a shot in the top right corner past a leaping McDaniel goalkeeper in the tenth minute. McDaniel would tie the game in the 31st minute when Nikki Varoutsos rifled a shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net past Washington goalkeeper Amanda Frushour (Westminster, MD/South Carroll).

The second half would remain quiet until the 83rd minute. After a McDaniel foul, Washington senior Katie Dulany (Mt. Airy, MD/South Carroll) placed an indirect kick right at the feet of Erin Beskid. The ball deflected off Beskid and right to sophomore Megan Russell (Federalsburg, MD/Seaford Christian) who proceeded to slip it past the McDaniel netminder for the goal. The assist by Beskid was the first assist of her collegiate soccer career.

The Green Terror would come back to tie the game at two with 1:06 remaining in regulation when Jamie Janowich slipped past the Shorewomen defense and shot the ball past Frushour and into the top left corner of the net.

The game would remain tied until Laura Mozzer headed a pass from senior Stephanie Bradley (Weston, MA/Kimball Union Acad.) for the game-winning goal. The assist was the 13th of Bradley's career, tying the all-time career assist record at Washington set by Sarah Polhamus (1999-2002).

Michelle Mullen made six saves for McDaniel, while Frushour made a career-high 18 saves for Washington.

McDaniel held a 26-12 advantage in shots and a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Shorewomen finish the season with an overall record of 3-12-1 and a 1-8-1 mark in Centennial Conference play, while the Green Terror end their season with a 7-10-1 overall record and a 3-6-1 in CC play.
