13, 2003 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior forward Meghan Hartzell (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) broke the school record for career points as the host Washington College Shorewomen defeated Rutgers-Newark, 3-1, this afternoon at Shriver Field. The Shorewomen improve to 3-2 with the win, while the Scarlet Raiders fall to 1-3. Freshman forward Kimberly Kann (Shady Side, MD/Southern) opened the scoring for Washington with a goal off a cross from sophomore forward Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) at the 25:14 mark. Hartzell quickly followed with a goal at 27:34 off a cross from sophomore midfielder Steph Bradley (Weston, MA/Kimball Union Academy). The Shorewomen went up 3-0 at 39:11 when freshman midfielder Christine Chop (Asan, Guam/Guam) scored her first collegiate goal off of the first collegiate assist for senior defender Erin Alessi (Baldwin, MD/Notre Dame Prep). Rutgers-Newark got on the board at 82:39 when Nnenna Allen scored. Ashley Woodruff made nine saves for the Scarlet Raiders, while junior Jennifer Chapman (Alexandria, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) made seven for the Shorewomen. Hartzell, who did not play collegiate soccer until last season, pushed her career point total to 32 with her goal. That surpasses the previous WC career record of 31 set by Sarah Polhamus from 1999-2002. This is the sixth season of varsity women's soccer at Washington College.
