Hartzell Breaks Career Goal Record
Shorewomen Top Cabrini, 4-3

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior forward Meghan Hartzell (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) broke the school record for career goals as the Washington College women's soccer team defeated visiting Cabrini, 4-3, this afternoon at Shriver Field. The Shorewomen improved to 4-3 with the win, while the Cavaliers fell to 4-3.

Hartzell scored two goals on the day, the first of which tied the school record at the 14:58 mark and gave WC a 1-0 lead. Sophomore midfielder Steph Bradley (Weston, MA/Kimball Union Academy) assisted on the goal.

Freshman forward Kimberly Kann (Shady Side, MD/Southern) put the Shorewomen up 2-0 at 23:40 off an assist from freshman midfielder Christine Chop (Asan, Guam/Guam). Hartzell then scored her record-breaking goal at 38:08 off of another Chop assist to give Washington a 3-0 lead at the half.

Cabrini opened the second half scoring when Mary Remoli knocked in a goal at 54:55. Washington sophomore forward Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) pushed the lead back to three with a goal at 61:26. The Cavaliers mounted a late rally as Kelly Romano scored twice off assists from Christine Watson, at 69:39 and 73:46, respectively, but the Shorewomen held on for the 4-3 win.

Hartzell's two goals gave her 14 for her career, surpassing the previous mark of 13 shared by Niki Dennison and Courtney Riso. This is the sixth season of varsity women's soccer at Washington College.

Junior goalie Jennifer Chapman (Alexandria, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) turned in another solid effort in goal for WC, making 15 saves.

The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday when they host Ursinus in a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game.
