7, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's soccer team matched its 2001 win total with a 3-1 victory over visiting Villa Julie this afternoon at Shriver Field. The Shorewomen improve to 3-1 with the victory, while the Mustangs slip to 1-3. Villa Julie struck first in the game, at the 23:34 mark, when Erica Kiss scored on a penalty kick. The Shorewomen evened things up at 27:45 when freshman forward Steph Bradley (Weston, MA/Kimball Union Academy) intercepted a Mustang pass, sped away on a fast break and booted in a well-angled shot near the top of the goal. The score remained tied until the 77:04 mark, when WC went ahead on a Villa Julie own goal. Shorewoman freshman forward Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) nicked a slow-rolling shot past a downed keeper. A Villa Julie defender reached the ball two yards outside the goal, but kicked the ball into the net in her attempt to save it. The Shorewomen added an insurance goal at 79:47 by junior forward Meghan Hartzell (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), who knocked in a rebound off a shot by Bradley. WC junior goalkeeper Mandy Higdon (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) finished with eight saves in the win. The Shorewomen are back in action Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. home game against Catholic. Box Score
