1, 2001 SCRANTON, PA -- Sophomore goalkeeper Mandy Higdon (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) made 20 saves for the Washington College women's soccer team today, but the Shorewomen suffered a 5-0 setback in their season opener against the host team at the University of Scranton Invitational. The Shorewomen will play at 12:00 p.m. tomorrow against Villa Julie in the consolation game of the four-team tournament. Scranton freshman Sara Suchoski (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Coughlin) scored three goals for the Royals in the win, including the first of the game at the 20:58 mark off a feed from senior midfielder Britt Cumiskey (Sparta, NJ/Sparta). Cumiskey assisted on another goal six minutes later, this time finding Jackie Frisina (Smithtown, NY/St. Anthony's) for a header to push the score to 2-0. Suchoski scored the first two goals of the second half off assists from Colleen Murphy (Laughorne, PA/Neshaminy) and Jenny Fretts (Wallingford, CT/Lyman Hall). The final goal of the day was tallied by Royal freshman Amy Pizzano (Dallas, PA/Bishop O'Reilly) at the 80:41 mark. Freshman Kelly Klingman (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) assisted on Pizzano's goal. Scranton advanced to tomorrow's championship game against Western Connecticut State. Box Score
