13, 2001 LANCASTER, PA -- Junior defender Betty Weller (Sudlersville, MD/Queen Anne's County) scored her first two goals of the season today, but the Washington College women's soccer team came up short in a 4-2 Centennial Conference loss at Franklin & Marshall. The Diplomats improved to 11-3 overall and 5-2 in league play, while the Shorewomen fell to 3-10-2 overall and 1-6 in conference action. Weller's first goal, just two minutes into the game, put the Shorewomen ahead, 1-0. Freshman forward Jordan Rogers (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) and freshman back Amy Bromwell (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) each picked up an assist on the goal. Franklin & Marshall tied the score when sophomore midfielder Kelly Kennedy (Hatfield, PA/North Penn) booted in a goal at 12:44 off an assist from junior midfielder Heather Rice (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel). The Shorewomen took the lead again on Weller's second goal at 17:28. The Diplomats came back to even the score before the end of the first half when Rice scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder Cassie McCormick (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) at 25:58. F&M scored the only two goals of the second half. Sophomore back Chrissy Jones (Millville, NJ/Millville) scored the eventual game-winner at 49:45. Kennedy added her second goal at 70:45 off an assist from sophomore midfielder Jeanette Finster (LaCanada, CA/Flintridge Prep). Washington sophomore goalkeeper Mandy Higdon (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) played well in the loss, making a career-high 27 saves. The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. conference game at Johns Hopkins. Box Score
