15, 2001 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's soccer team dropped its Centennial Conference opener today, losing 3-0 to Dickinson College this afternoon at Shriver Field. The Shorewomen (0-4-2, 0-1) held the Red Devils (5-1, 1-0) off the board until the 70th minute and trailed by just one until the 86th minute. Dickinson freshman forward Karen Berggren (Holidaysburg, PA/Holidaysburg) scored the first of her two goals 69:45 into the game off an assist from junior midfielder Amy Montalbano (Edison, NJ/Edison). Red Devils sophomore forward Alyssa Carlow (McLean, VA/McLean) tallied the second goal off a feed from sophomore midfielder Katherine Holmes (McLean, VA/Langley) at the 85:06 mark. Berggren's second goal was an unassisted marker at 88:48. Washington sophomore goalkeeper Mandy Higdon (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) made 12 saves in the loss. The Shorewomen managed to stay in the game for most of the contest despite being outshot 31-4. The Shorewomen continue play in the Centennial Conference with a 4:00 p.m. Wednesday game at Bryn Mawr.
