Shorewomen Get First Win of 2001
Pistone, Mackeverican Lead Way

BRYN MAWR, PA -- The Washington College women's soccer team won its first game of the 2001 season in emphatic fashion today, putting up three goals in a span of less than three minutes in the first half en route to a 5-1 Centennial Conference victory at Bryn Mawr. The Shorewomen improve to 1-4-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play with the win.

Freshman forward/midfielder Lynn Pistone (Hammonton, NJ/St. Joseph's) broke a scoreless tie 26:05 into the game with an unassisted goal, the first of her collegiate career. Freshman forward Jordan Rogers (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) upped the lead to 2-0 just 33 seconds later with an unassisted tally of her own.

Less than two minutes after that, sophomore back Sara Mackeverican (Allentown, PA/Parkland) put the Shorewomen on the board again at the 34:30 mark after booting in a cross from Rogers. Mackeverican added another goal at the 34:30 mark to give WC a 4-0 lead at the half.

The Mawrters finally got on the board at the 74:00 mark when junior midfielder Katie Cooper (Lancaster, PA/Linden Hall) scored an unassisted goal. Pistone then scored her second goal of the day at 77:04 to round out the scoring. Freshman back Amy Bromwell (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) picked up an assist on the goal.

The Shorewomen held a decisive 26-9 advantage in shots on goal and a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.

Washington takes a brief hiatus from conference play Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. home game against Alfred at Shriver Field.
