Three Shorewomen Named CRCA
National Div. III Scholar-Athletes

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Washington College junior Jenna Lapointe (Newark, DE/Newark) and sophomores Ericka Malow (Brunswick, OH/Brunswick) and Krista Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) have been named College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division III National Scholar-Athletes for the 2007-08 season.

The National Scholar-Athlete Award is designed to recognize the outstanding academic accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains. The criteria include participating in their second, third, or fourth year of eligibility, participating in at least 75% of the spring season's races in the varsity boat, and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher through the fall semester of the current season.

All three of the Shorewomen's honorees are members of the team's varsity eight which will be making the school's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Championships this Friday and Saturday in Gold River, CA. The varsity eight, the top-ranked boat in the Mid-Atlantic region, carries a 29-7 record into this weekend's championships, including a 22-2 mark against NCAA Division III boats. Lapointe, who is a repeat CRCA National Scholar-Athlete, sits in the six seat of the varsity eight, while Malow, who earned All Mid-Atlantic Region honors this season, sits in the seven seat. Jensen is the boat's coxswain.

As a team, the Shorewomen are currently ranked 12th in Division III.
