2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD - Washington College sophomore rower Caroline Perry (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) has been named to the Pocock Division III All-America first team by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA). Perry is the first Shorewoman to earn All-America first team honors since 2004 and the first Shorewoman rower ever to achieve the feat before her junior year. Perry, who was named All Mid-Atlantic Region last month, is the stroke for the Shorewomen's varsity eight, which will be making the school's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Championships this Friday and Saturday in Gold River, CA. The varsity eight, the top-ranked boat in the Mid-Atlantic region, carries a 29-7 record into this weekend's championships, including a 22-2 mark against NCAA Division III boats. As a team, the Shorewomen are currently ranked 12th in Division III. Perry is just the third different Shorewoman and second different non-coxswain to earn CRCA All-America first team honors. Sara Beegle garnered first team honors as a junior and senior in 2003 and 2004, respectively, after earning second team honors as a freshman in 2001. Coxswain Anna Germain joined Beegle on the first team as a senior in 2003. Perry is also just the fifth Washington College female student-athlete in any sport in the school's history to earn All-America first team honors as a freshman or sophomore. The Washington College women's rowing team has now had at least one athlete named a first or second team All-American in seven of the past eight seasons. CRCA All-America selections are based on a combination of strength of schedule, regular season record, end of season regatta results, nomination rank, coach's comments, and 2,000 meter erg scores.
