Walburn & Lapointe Named CRCA
National Div. III Scholar-Athletes

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Washington College rowers Megan Walburn (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and Jenna Lapointe (Newark, DE/Newark) have been named College Rowing Coaches Association Division III National Scholar-Athletes for the 2006-07 season.

The National Scholar-Athlete Award is designed to recognize the outstanding academic accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains. The criteria include participating in their second, third, or fourth year of eligibility, participating in at least 75% of the spring season's races in the varsity boat, and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher through the fall semester of the current season.

Walburn, a senior, earned CRCA National Scholar-Athlete status for the third straight year. Lapointe, a sophomore, earned the honor for the first time. Both rowers were key members of Washington's first varsity eight. Washington's women's rowing team finished the year ranked 12th in Division III.
