Washington Wins Caspersen Cup
Shorewomen Sweep Women's Races

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's rowing team won all four women's races and combined with the WC men's rowers to win the Caspersen Cup in the annual regatta held between Washington, Johns Hopkins, and St. John's (MD). Washington finished with 39 points in the regatta, which was held Saturday morning on the Chester River. Hopkins finished second with 35 points, and St. John's was third with 27.

Washington's "A" boat was first in the women's varsity eight in 8:18.10, while the "B" boat was second in 8:51.14. The Shorewomen won the novice eight in 9:19.93. Washington took first and second in the novice four as the "A" boat finished first in 8:26.55 and the "B" boat was second in 10:15.39. That performance, couple with Johns Hopkins finishing fourth in the race gave Washington a three point lead in the Caspersen Cup standings, meaning the Shorewomen's varsity four need only finish its race for WC to win the cup. WC's women's varsity four did more than finish - it won its race in 9:18.83.

Senior Erin Koster (Tranquility, NJ/Newton) served as coxswain of the Shorewomen's "A" boat in the varsity eight. Senior Erin Jones (Crofton, MD/Arundel) sat stroke, senior Jeanne Clark (Pound Ridge, NY/Fox Lane) sat in the seven seat, senior Amy Uebel (Martinsville, IN/Martinsville) was in the six seat, sophomore Jamie Beaber (Littleton, CO/Littleton) was in the five seat, junior Laura Ratz (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) was in the four seat, senior Megan Walburn (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) sat in the three seat, freshman Megan Jasion (Somerville, NJ/Somerville) was in the two seat, and sophomore Jenna Lapointe (Newark, DE/Newark) was the bow.

Freshman Krista Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) served as the coxswain of the Shorewomen's "B" boat in the varsity eight. Freshman Caroline Perry (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) sat stroke, freshman Ericka Malow (Brunswick, OH/Brunswick) was in the seven seat, freshman Lauren Jakubowicz (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) sat in the six seat, junior Becca Kain (Hagerstown, MD/St. James School) was in the five seat, junior Courtney Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was in the four seat, sophomore Maura McLoughlin (Babylon, NY/Babylon) sat in the three seat, sophomore Nicole Rousseau (Burlington, CT/Miss Porter's School) was in the two seat, and sophomore Elizabeth Thorpe (Davis, CA/Davis) was the bow.

Koster also served as coxswain of the Shorewomen's boat in the varsity four. Jones sat stroke, Clark was in the three seat, Uebel sat in the two seat, and Walburn was the bow.

Freshman Beth Becker (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) served as coxswain of the Shorewomen's novice eight. Freshman Emily Hofler (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) sat stroke, freshman Erin McMichael (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights) was in the seven seat, freshman Emily Kate Brown (Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Regional) sat in the six seat, freshman Amy Smith (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) was in the five seat, freshman Jill Charles (North East, MD/West Nottingham Academy) sat in the four seat, freshman Katie Daudelin (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) was in the three seat, junior Shelley Holtmann (Laurel, MD/Atholton) sat in the three seat, and freshman Jordan Brown (Alletown, PA/Louis E. Dieruff) was the bow.

Krista Jensen was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's "A" boat in the novice four. Malow sat stroke, Perry was in the three seat, Jordan Brown sat in the two seat, and Jakubowicz was the bow.

Becker was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's "B" boat in the novice four. Hofler sat stroke, Smith was in the three seat, Charles was in the two seat, and McMichael was the bow.

The Shorewomen return to action one week from today when they host Franklin & Marshall on the Chester River.

"B" boats were awarded places, but not points. Women's Novice Eight race did not award points due to St. John's not having an entry in the race. Scoring was 10-8-7-6 for varsity eights, 8-7-6-5 for novice eights, and 5-4-3-2-1 for fours.

Women's Novice Eight - 1. Washington College (9:19.93), 2. Johns Hopkins (9:52.21).

Men's Varsity Eight - 1. Johns Hopkins (6:56.33/10 pts), 2. Washington College (7:14.28/8 pts), 3. St. John's (7:36.03/7 pts).

Women's Novice Four - 1. Washington College "A" (8:26.55/5 pts), 2. Washington College "B" (10:15.39), 3. St. John's (11:08.02/3 pts), 4. Johns Hopkins (11:24.28/2 pts).
