Shorewomen Finish 2nd Overall at ACLS
Three Washington Boats Finish 2nd in Finals

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The 14th-ranked Washington College women's rowing team finished second overall of 10 schools at the Atlantic Collegiate League Sprints regatta today in Carlisle, PA. The Shorewomen finished with 23 points, second only to Ithaca's 26.

Washington's varsity eight won its heat in 6:49.0 and finished second in the final in 6:41.65. Ithaca won the final in 6:29.7. Marietta was third, Mary Washington fourth, Bryn Mawr fifth, and RIT sixth.

Senior Katie Cooper (Annapolis, MD/Archbishop Spalding) served as the coxswain of the Shorewomen's varsity eight. Senior Leslie Meredith (Fort Bragg, NC/Lake Braddock, VA) sat stroke, senior Katherine Wilson (Devon, PA/Conestoga) was in the seven seat, junior Erin Jones (Crofton, MD/Arundel) sat in the six seat, junior Jeanne Clark (Pound Ridge, NY/Fox Lane) was in the five seat, junior Amy Uebel (Martinsville, IN/Martinsville) was in the four seat, sophomore Hayley Taylor (Tyaskin, MD/Geneva Academy) was in the three seat, sophomore Kelly Spicer (Towson, MD/Loch Raven) sat in the two seat, and junior Megan Walburn (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) was the bow.

Washington's varsity four was second to Johns Hopkins, finishing in 7:30.6. Junior Erin Koster (Tranquility, NJ/Newton) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's varsity four. Senior Betsy Davis (Pitman, NJ/Pitman) sat stroke, junior Blair Haring (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) was in the three seat, sophomore Laura Ratz (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) was in the two seat, and sophomore Courtney Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was the bow.

Washington's novice eight finished second in 7:04.3, 22 seconds ahead of third-place Loyola. Ithaca won the race in 7:00.7. Freshman Danielle Holthaus (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) served as coxswain of the Shorewomen's novice eight. Freshman Jenna Lapointe (Newark, DE/Newark) sat stroke, freshman Kali Beth Erstein (Spring Lake, NJ/Manasquan) was in the seven seat, freshman Jamie Beaber (Littleton, CO/Littleton) was in the six seat, freshman Carol Funck (Etters, PA/Red Land) sat in the five seat, freshman Megan Jasion (Somerville, NJ/Somerville) was in the four seat, freshman Emily Bands (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) sat in the three seat, freshman Allie LaVigne (West Boylston, MA/West Boylston) was in two seat, and freshman Abby Withers (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) was the bow.

The Shorewomen's "A" boat in the novice four finished the course first in 8:16.43, but fell to fifth place due to a penalty. Washington's "B" boat was third in 8:25.65. Johns Hopkins was declared the winner of the race due to Washington's "A" boat's penalty.

Sophomore Katie Woolf (Toms River, NJ/Tos River North) served as coxswain of the Shorewomen's "A" boat in the novice four. Freshman Elizabeth Thorpe (Davis, CA/Davis) sat stroke, freshman Laura Powell (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) was in the three seat, freshman Elizabeth Andrews (Round Hill, VA/Loudon) sat in the two seat, and sophomore Becca Kain (Hagerstown, MD/St. James School) was the bow.

Freshman Nicole Rousseau (Burlington, CT/Miss Porter's School) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's "B" boat in the novice four. Freshman Ruby Tuesday Griffiths (Wilmington, DE/Cab Calloway School of the Arts) sat stroke, freshman Maura McLoughlin (Babylon, NY/Babylon) sat in the three seat, freshman Julia Rorer (North Wales, PA/Springside) was in the two seat, and freshman Amy Windsor (Florence, NJ/Holy Cross) was the bow.

Sophomore Marian Robbins (Cambridge, MD/Cambridge-South Dorchester) rowed in a single for the Shorewomen, finishing second of two boats in 10:38.76.

Based on head-to-head results with Mary Washington today, Washington College was awarded the Mother and Son Championship, 26 points to 25. The annual Mother and Son regatta between Washington and Mary Washington was canceled last weekend.
