30, 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College novice rowers hosted the Tapke Chase Regatta this morning in a steady breeze and under clear skies on the Chester River. The novice Shorewomen entered two boats each in the women's eight and the women's four. Washington's "A" boat finished second in the women's eight in 18:31.64, over four seconds faster than third-place Mary Washington (18:35.92). Washington's "B" boat was fifth in 23:33.48. A boat of Washington College Alumni won the race in 18:11.88, while Johns Hopkins (22:16.85) was fourth. In the women's four, Washington's "A" boat was fourth in 21:34.95, while the Shorewomen's "B" boat was fifth in 24:40.11. Washington College Alumni won the race in 19:29.70, while Mary Washington (19:56.98) was second and Chester River Rowing Club (20:37.46) was third. The Washington College women's rowing team opens its spring regatta schedule April 1st at the Caspersen Cup in Baltimore, MD.
