29, 2005 PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Washington College women's rowing team finished 14th of 37 boats in the women's open four today at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia, PA. The Shorewomen also entered boats in the women's heavy championship eights and the women's college frosh/novice eights. Washington finished the open four in 16:49.37. Three Rivers Rowing Association won the race in 15:42.22, while second-place Pittsburgh was the fastest collegiate finisher in 15:56.73. Sophomore Ashleigh Genevich (Avon Grove, PA/Avon Grove) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's boat in the open four. Senior Cassie Ann Slentz (Himrod, NY/Penn Yan Academy) sat stroke, sophomore Kelly Spicer (Towson, MD/Loch Raven) was in the three seat, sophomore Hayley Taylor (Tyaskin, MD/Geneva Academy) sat in the two seat, and junior Erin Jones (Crofton, MD/Arundel) was the bow. The Shorewomen finished 17th of 22 boats in the women's heavy championship open eights in 14:31.17. Navy won he race in 13:48.94. Washington finished 10 seconds better than 19th-place Mary Washington, the one of the Shorewomen's annual regional rivals, after finishing behind the Eagles two weeks ago at the Occoquan Chase. Senior Katie Cooper (Annapolis, MD/Archbishop Spalding) served as the coxswain of the Shorewomen's boat in the championship open eights. Senior Katherine Wilson (Devon, PA/Conestoga) sat stroke, senior Leslie Meredith (Fort Bragg, NC/Lake Braddock, VA) was in the seven seat, junior Jeanne Clark (Pound Ridge, NY/Fox Lane) sat in the six seat, sophomore Laura Ratz (Annaplolis, MD/Annapolis) was in the five seat, junior Blair Haring (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) was in the four seat, senior Betsy Davis (Pitman, NJ/Pitman) was in the three seat, junior Megan Walburn (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) sat in the two seat, and sophomore Courtney Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was the bow. Washington was 21st of 57 boats in the women's college frosh/novice eights in 10:04.56. Freshman Danielle Holthaus (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) served as the coxswain of Washington's boat in the college novice eights. Freshman Elizabeth Thorpe sat stroke, freshman Tori Weitzel (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul's School for Girls) was in the seven seat, freshman Ruby Tuesday Griffiths (Wilmington, DE/Cab Calloway School of the Arts) sat in the six seat, freshman Jamie Beaber (Littleton, CO/Littleton) was in the five seat, freshman Julia Rorer (North Wales, PA/Springside) was in the four seat, freshman Emily Bands (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) sat in the three seat, freshman Elizabeth Andrews (Round Hill, VA/Loudon) was in the two seat, and freshman Allie LaVigne (West Boylston, MA/West Boylston) was the bow. The Shorewomen's novice rowers will host the Tapke Chase tomorrow on the Chester River. |
