Shorewomen Compete at Occoquan Chase

LORTON, VA -- The Washington College women's rowing team opened its fall 2004 racing schedule Sunday at the Occoquan Chase in Lorton, VA. The Shorewomen competed in the women's open four, the mixed open quad, the women's open double, and the novice women's singles.

Washington's "A" boat finished second of three boats in the mixed open quad in 19:45. Senior Courtney Ackerman (Marriotsville, MD/Liberty) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's quad "A" boat. Senior Beth Rideout (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) sat in the four seat, sophomore Jeanne Clark (Pound Ridge, NY/Fox Lane) was in the three seat, senior Sam Hastler (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) was in the two seat, and sophomore Megan Walburn (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) was in seat one.

Washington's "B" boat finished third in the mixed open quad in 20:43. Junior Katie Cooper (Annapolis, MD/Archbishop Spalding) served as coxswain of the quad "B" boat. Sophomore Dani Harlan (Prince Frederick, MD/Calvert) sat in the seat four, senior Jennifer Bockmiller (Westminster, MD/Westminster) was in the three seat, junior Betsy Davis (Pitman, NJ/ Pitman) was in the two seat, and sophomore Meg Chapman (Meriden, NH/Lebanon) was in seat one.

In the women's open doubles, Washington finished fifth of five boats in 24:31. Sophomore Blair Haring (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) sat in seat two and sophomore Amy Uebel (Martinsville, IN/Martinsville) sat in seat one in the doubles boat.

In the women's novice singles, junior Leslie Meredith (Fort Bragg, NC/Lake Braddock, VA) finished fourth of six boats in 24:09 and junior Maggie Von Rump (Mystic, CT/Fitch) finished sixth in 26:14.

The Shorewomen were 14th of 16 boats in the women's open four in 20:43. Sophomore Erin Koster (Tranquility, NJ/Newton) was the coxswain of Washington's open four. Sophomore Kristen Kulik (Bel Air, MD/Fallston) sat in the four seat, sophomore Helen Farr (Prospect Park, PA/Interboro) sat in the three seat, junior Emily Richardson (Whiteford, MD/North Harford) sat in the two seat, and sophomore Sarah Brown (Paducah, KY/Marshall County) sat in seat one.

The Shorewomen will have a boat in the championship four this Sunday at the Head of the Charles regatta in Boston, MA. The rest of the Shorewomen will be hosting the Tapke Chase Sunday on the Chester River.
