3, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD --The ninth-ranked Washington College women's rowing team won all three women's eights in a match regatta against Mary Washington this morning on the Chester River. Washington College won the regatta, which was scored for both men's and women's races, 48-42. The Shorewomen's first varsity eight cruised to a first-place finish in 6:54.29, grabbing an early lead and extending it throughout the race. Mary Washington finished in 7:15.64. In the second varsity eight, Washington's "A" and "B" boats both finished in front of Mary Washington. WC's "A" boat was first in 7:22.14, while the "B" boat followed in 7:55.70. Mary Washington's boat suffered early equipment problems and finished in third in 8:22.19 with only six rowers rowing for most of the race. In the frosh/novice eight, Mary Washington held a two-seat lead early in the race, but Washington pulled ahead and finished first in 8:11.76. Mary Washington finished in 8:22.50. Mary Washington won the only women's four race of the day, taking the frosh/novice four in 9:27.28, crossing the finish several boat-lengths in front of Washington, who finished in 10:36.37. Next Saturday, the Shorewomen will race against host Tufts, Bates, and Wesleyan, in Boston, MA.
