Shorewomen Open Sring Season
at FIT's Keuper Cup Regatta

MELBOURNE, FL -- The Washington College women's rowing team opened its Spring 2004 racing season today at the Keuper Cup, hosted by Florida Institure of Technology in Melbourne, FL. The Shorewomen are ranked 11th in the preseason Division III poll.

Washington finished second in the first varsity eight, reaching the finish line 6.4 seconds behind Marietta. FIT was third in the race, while Stetson was fourth.

In the second varsity eight, the Shorewomen captured first place in a two-boat race, beating Marietta by 28 seconds. In the novice eight, Washington was third, coming in behind first-place FIT and second-place Embry-Riddle.

Washington's 11th-place ranking in the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division III preseason poll was announced earlier this week. Defending National Champion Colby and the United States Coast Guard Academy shared the top spot. The full poll appears at http://www.usrowing.com/itemdisplay.asp?id=1151.

The Shorewomen return to action March 27th when they host the Caspersen Cup on the Chester River.
