27, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The 11th-ranked Washington College women's rowing team finished first in all three races it entered this morning at the Caspersen Cup Regatta, held on the Chester River. The Shorewomen combined with the Shoremen to win the cup outright for Washington College for the first time since 2000. Washington and Johns Hopkins shared the cup each of the past two years. Washington finished first and second in the women's varsity eight as the Shorewomen's "A" boat crossed the finish at 6:20.55 and their "B" boat followed at 6:34.89. Johns Hopkins was third in 6:46.12. In the women's varsity four, Washington's "A" boat set the pace with a first-place time of 6:47.98. JHU's "A" boat was second in 7:04.12, followed by JHU's "B" boat in third in 7:08.92, and the Shorewomen's "B" boat in 7:37.40. Washington took the top two spots in the women's frosh/novice four. WC's "B" boat won the race, followed by the Shorewomen's "A" boat in second and St. John's (MD) in third. Times were unavailable. St. John's finished first in the women's single in 7:54.2. Hopkins was second in 8:14.0. Washington finished with 47 points in the regatta. Hopkins totaled 41 points and St. John's tallied 37 points. The Shorewomen host Mary Washington in a match regatta next Saturday on the Chester River.
