First Varsity Eight Wins in Boston
WC Bests Wesleyan, Bates

BOSTON, MA -- The 10th-ranked Washington College women's rowing team competed in a quadrangular regatta with fifth-ranked Tufts, 15th-ranked Wesleyan, and 20th-ranked Bates today in Boston, MA. The Shorewomen's first varsity eight boat won its event, beating Wesleyan in the semifinals and Bates in the final.

In the semifinal, the first varsity eight finished 13.4 seconds in front of Wesleyan, completing the course in 7:19.0. In the other semifinal, Bates edged Tufts by 3.5 seconds. In the final, WC completed the course in on the Malden River in 7:51.04, finishing a full 24 seconds in front of Bates.

Washington's second varsity eight lost its semifinal to Bates by 15.7 seconds, but bounced back to defeat Tufts in the third place race by 12 seconds.

Senior coxswain Anna Germain (Rock Hall, MD/Christiana, DE) guided the first varsity eight boat. With her in the boat were junior Kelly McGlynn (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) at stroke, junior Sara Beegle (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic) in the seven seat, senior Mary McAuliffe (Columbia, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) in the six seat, sophomore Beth Rideout (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) in the five seat, sophomore Liz Smith (Sharpsburg, MD/Boonsboro) in the four seat, sophomore Amanda Smallwood (Fort Washington, MD/Oxon Hill) in the three seat, sophomore Jennifer Bockmiller (Westminster, MD/Westminster) in the two seat, and junior Leona Dalton (Bowie, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) at bow.

Junior Amy Levak (Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) was the coxswain for the second varsity eight boat. Joining her in the boat were freshman Katherine Wilson (Devon, PA) at stroke, freshman Stephanie Gerwitz (Wynnewood, PA) in the seven seat, freshman Cassie Ann Slentz (Penn Yann, NY) in the six seat, sophomore Samantha Hastler (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) in the five seat, freshman Jeanne Seeberger (Baltimore, MD) in the four seat, freshman Elizabeth Davis (Pitman, NJ) in the three seat, freshman Caitlyn Koehler (Waldorf, MD/Maurice J. McDonough) in the two seat and junior Gina Ralston (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) at bow.

The Shorewomen, who received a first-place vote in the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association for the first time ever this week, are in action again tomorrow with a regatta at Coast Guard.
