16, 2002 MELBOURNE, FL -- The Washington College women's rowing team competed at the four-school Keuper Cup Regatta in Melbourne, FL, today. Washington, the only Division III school at the event, took first place in the varsity eight, the regatta's flagship event. WC's "A" boat won the varsity eight in 7:03, 22 seconds faster than the boat from Division I Stetson. Junior coxswain Anna Germain (Rock Hall, MD/Christiana, DE) guided the boat and was joined by senior Brianne Brynelson (Lake Oswego, OR/Lake Oswego) in the eighth seat, sophomore Sara Beegle (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic) in the seven seat, sophomore Kelly McGlynn (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) in the six seat, senior Hilary Wurzbach (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) in the five seat, freshman Juli Irwin (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) in the four seat, junior Heather Reader (Chadds Ford, PA/Garnet Valley) in the three seat, junior Mary McAuliffe (Columbia, MD/Mount de Sales) in the two seat, and sophomore Gina Ralston (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville)at bow. Division II Florida Institute of Technology finished third in 7:42, and Division II Embry-Riddle finished fourth in 7:51. The Shorewomen's "B" boat took fifth in 7:57. In the freshman four, F.I.T. finished first in 9:01, Stetson finished second in 9:03, Washington was third in 9:16, and Embry-Riddle was fourth in 10:07. The Shorewomen host a scrimmage with Mount Holyoke next Saturday at 9:00 a.m. and host the Caspersen Cup at 9:00 a.m. two weeks from today. |
