19, 2002 BOSTON, MA -- The Washington College women's rowing squad had two team entrants today at the Head of the Charles Regatta, the largest crew event in the world. The women's collegiate eight finished 14th of 34 crews, while the women's club four finished 32nd of 53 crews. Junior coxswain Amy Levak (Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) guided the collegiate eight boat across the finish line at 19:13.20. The Shorewomen were the fifth Division III team to complete the race, behind Coast Guard, RIT, Tufts, and Hamilton. Sophomore Juli Irwin (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) sat in the eight seat, junior Sara Beegle (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic) sat seventh, senior Mary McAuliffe (Columbia, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) sat sixth, sophomore Liz Smith (Hagerstown, MD/Boonsboro) sat fifth, freshman Amanda Jones (Chadds Ford, PA) sat fourth, sophomore Beth Rideout (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) sat third, freshman Anna Landry (Chesapeake, VA) sat second, and freshman Julia Lange (Ballston Lake, NY) sat in the one seat. Senior Anna Germain (Rock Hall, MD/Christiana, DE) was the coxswain for the club four boat, which finished in 21:11.61. Sophomore Jennifer Bockmiller (Westminster, MD/Westminster) sat in the four seat, sophomore Amanda Smallwood (Ft. Washington, MD/Oxon Hill) sat third, freshman Leslie Meredith sat second, and freshman Kristen Machen (Bohannon, VA) sat in the one seat. The Shorewomen return to action next Saturday at the Head of Schuykill Regatta. |
