30, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's rowing team won all three women's races today at the ninth annual Caspersen Cup Regatta, held on the Chester River. St. John's (MD) College and Johns Hopkins are the other two schools which compete annually for the Cup. Men's and women's scored combined determine the winner. This year, Washington tied with Johns Hopkins. It was the second tie in the history of the event and the seventh time that WC has won at least a share of the Cup. Headlining the regatta was the Women's First Varsity Eight, which Washington won in 8:09.87. Hopkins took second in 8:48.74 and St. John's third in 9:48.82. In the Women's Second Varsity Eight, WC took first in 8:00.55, besting Hopkins by well over a minute. Hopkins finished in 9:16.42. In the Women's Frosh/Novice Four, WC finished first in 8:01.7, defeating St. John's, which finished in 8:12.0. WC and Hopkins each finished with 41 points. St. John's totalled 22. After a scrimmage at Navy Wednesday, the Shorewomen next compete in a home regatta against Mary Washington at 9:00 a.m. on April 13. |
