2007 DOVER, DE -- Visiting Washington College raced out to a 15-4 halftime lead en route to a 17-10 victory over host Wesley College in a non-conference women's lacrosse game tonight in Dover, DE. The Shorewomen improved to 3-4 with the win, while the Wolverines fell to 3-2 with the loss. The two teams were tied at 3-3 early in the game, but the Shorewomen scored 12 goals in a span of 12:17 to blow the game open. Washington outshot Wesley 23-9 in the first half and 30-23 overall. Senior midfielder Lauren Sampson (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) scored all five of her goals on six shots in the first half. Sophomore midfielder Brittany Lambert (Riva, MD/South River) scored two goals and handed out three assists, while junior attacker Caitlin Beane (University Park, MD/Elizabeth Seton) and sophomore attacker Suzie Jakub (University Park, MD/St. John's College, DC) netted two goals each. Junior midfielder Alli Luchey (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) added two goals and one assist. Freshman attacker Allie Hanzsche (Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales), junior defender Lindsay Fox (Laurel, MD/Atholton), and senior midfielder Melanie Ruppert (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) each finished with one goal and one assist. Hanzsche also tallied a team-best three caused turnovers, while Fox recorded a team-high four draw controls. Senior goalie Mollie Binotto (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) made eight saves for the Shorewomen. Leslie Cervenka led the Wolverines with four goals and one assist, while Meghan Jones added one goal and one assist. Wesley's first-year head coach Lindsey Eichner graduated from Washington in 2005 and is the school's all-time assist leader. The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with a 6:00 p.m. home game against 20th-ranked Rowan. |
