Bears Claw Shorewomen, 14-11
Ruppert Tallies Three Goals in Loss

COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- Host Ursinus College used a six-goal run in the middle of the game to take control of the contest in a 14-11 Centennial Conference women's lacrosse victory over visiting Washington College this afternoon in Collegeville, PA. The Bears improved to 9-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 6-10 and 2-6 with the loss.

Washington built a 7-5 lead following a goal by sophomore midfielder Brittany Lambert (Riva, MD/South River) with 3:31 left in the first half, before the Bears scored the final three goals of the period, the last one coming from Stephanie Kaysen with three seconds remaining in the half, to take an 8-7 lead at the intermission.

Ursinus continued its run into the second half, scoring the first three goals of the period. Liz Cannon found Logan Conklin for a goal just 57 seconds into the period, Kaysen scored with 27:41 to play, and Conklin scored again with 25:21 remaining to give the Bears an 11-7 cushion. Washington junior midfielder Jenna Gouck (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) ended the run with a goal with 23:50 left in the game, but Conklin answered with back-to-back goals, the first off an assist from Kaysen, to give Ursinus a 13-8 advantage with 12:51 left.

The Shorewomen scored the next three goals as junior defender Lindsay Fox (Laurel, MD/Atholton) scored at 10:23 and senior midfielder Melanie Ruppert (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) scored at 5:10 and scored again 32 seconds later off a feed from senior attacker Caitlin Beane (University Park, MD/Elizabeth Seton) to cut the lead to 13-11, but Kaysen scored off a Lisa Clark assist with 3:19 on the clock to give Ursinus a three-goal advantage as the Bears held on for the win.

Conklin scored four goals in the game for the Bears, while Kaysen finished with three goals and three assists and Kaitlin Glenn totaled three goals. Allyson Shicora made 12 saves for Ursinus in the win.

Ruppert led the Shorewomen with three goals. Lambert added two goals and one assist, while Gouck and sophomore attacker Suzie Jakub (University Park, MD/St. John's College, DC) scored two goals each. Washington senior goalie Mollie Binotto (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) made 10 saves in the loss.

The Shorewomen held a slight 29-28 advantage in shots and controlled 17 of the game's 27 draws, but turned the ball over nine more times than Ursinus (26-17).

The Shorewomen finish their season this Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Bryn Mawr.
