Jakub Lifts WC to 15-14 Win Over Stevens
Sophomore Nets Game-Winner with 48 Seconds Left

HOBOKEN, NJ -- Sophomore attacker Suzie Jakub (University Park, MD/St. John's College, DC) scored the game-winning goal with 48 seconds left to give visiting Washington College a 15-14 victory over host Stevens Tech in women's lacrosse action this afternoon in Hoboken, NJ. The Shorewomen evened their record at 1-1 with the win, while the Ducks fell to 0-1 with the loss.

Washington built an 8-4 lead with 6:13 remaining in the first half following a goal by junior attacker Megan Rainey (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding), who scored off the first collegiate assist for freshman midfielder Jamie Jones (Glen Arm, MD/Loch Raven). Stevens then reeled off four unanswered goals to knot the score at 8-8 by halftime; Cassidy Callahan finished off the run with a goal with 19 seconds on the clock.

The Ducks continued their run in the second half, scoring the first three goals of the period to make it seven straight goals in all. Liz Mather gave Stevens its biggest lead of the game at 11-8 when she scored with 22:55 remaining. Washington then scored four straight goals of its own, capped off by a goal by sophomore midfielder Brittany Lambert (Riva, MD/South River) with 12:53 remaining, to regain the lead at 12-11.

Callahan tied the score with a goal at 10:58, but Lambert answered at 9:23 to make it 13-12 Washington. Free-position goals by Mather and Katie Lalli with 8:15 and 5:50 remaining, respectively, gave the Ducks a 14-13 advantage. Lambert evened the score at 14-14 when she scored off a feed from junior midfielder Alli Luchey (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) with 3:29 to play. Lambert later scooped up a ground ball off a Stevens turnover with 1:38 remaining. Washington successfully cleared the ball and Jakub's game-winner came later on that same possession. Washington senior midfielder Melanie Ruppert (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) controlled the ensuing draw as the Shorewomen ran out the clock to hold on for the win.

Lambert and Ruppert each scored four goals in the win for the Shorewomen, while Jakub finished with three goals and junior attacker Caitlin Beane (University Park, MD/Elizabeth Seton) tallied two goals and two assists.

Mather tallied four goals and three assists for the Ducks, while Lalli netted four goals and Callahan finished with three. Alyssa Pigott added two goals and an assist for Stevens.

Washington held a 38-21 advantage in shots in the game and a 20-10 edge in ground balls. Stevens controlled 21 of the game's 31 draws, but turned the ball over 26 times to Washington's eight.

The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with their home opener, a 4:00 p.m. game against College of Notre Dame.
