Shorewomen Stall Fords, 12-10
Beane, Jakub Combine for Nine Goals for WC

HAVERFORD, PA -- Visiting Washington College built a seven-goal lead in the second half and held off a furious rally by host Haverford College to hold on for a 12-10 Centennial Conference women's lacrosse victory this afternoon in Haverford, PA. The Shorewomen improved to 5-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play with the win, while the Fords fell to 5-4 and 1-3 with the loss.

The Shorewomen jumped out to a 7-3 lead at halftime as sophomore attacker Suzie Jakub (University Park, MD/St. John's College, DC) and senior attacker Caitlin Beane (University Park, MD/Elizabeth Seton) accounted for all seven of Washington's goal in the first half as Beane scored four and Jakub scored three.

Washington extended the lead to 11-4 early in the second half, but the Fords scored three unanswered goals to close to 11-7 on a Sharon O'Neill goal assisted by Lauren Finkel with 10:31 remaining in the game. Washington junior midfielder Jenna Gouck (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) ended the Haverford run with a goal with 6:45 on the clock. Elizabeth Koelmel scored for the Fords with 4:04 remaining to cut the margin back to four goals at 12-8 and Casey Sanborn followed with a goal with 1:31 remaining to trim the lead to 12-9. O'Neill made it 12-10 with a goal with 31 seconds left, but that was as close as Haverford would get as the Shorewomen held on for the win.

Beane scored five goals in the game for the Shorewomen and assisted on another and Jakub netted four goals of her own. Sophomore midfielder Brittany Lambert (Riva, MD/South River) added four assists for Washington. Jakub also tallied a game-high seven draw controls, while Lambert had a game-best six ground balls. Junior goalie Erin O'Brien (Havre de Grace, MD/John Carroll) made 10 saves for the Shorewomen.

O'Neill led Haverford with three goals, while Sanborn, Koelmel, and Finkel each tallied two. Siobhan Neitzel made 10 stops in goal for the Fords.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Muhlenberg.
