March 16, 2006 WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- The Washington College women's lacrosse team scored seven unanswered goals en route to a 10-7 win over 14th-ranked Stevens Tech this morning at the "Spring Fling" in West Palm Beach, FL. The Shorewomen, who improved to 5-2 this season with the win, got three goals and one assist from junior attacker Caitlin Beane (University Park, MD/Elizabeth Seton). The Ducks fell to 0-4 with the loss. Stevens held a 3-1 lead less than 10 minutes into the game before the Shorewomen went on their big run. Beane scored three of the first four goals in the run. Washington took a 7-3 lead into halftime and freshman attacker Suzie Jakub (University Park, MD/St. John's College, DC) finished off the Shorewomen's seven straight goals by scoring 29 seconds into the second half off an assist from senior attacker Kelly Gallagher (Columbus, OH/Dublin Scioto) to push the lead to 8-3. Stevens scored four of the next five goals and cut the lead to 9-7 when Melissa Scott scored off a feed from Cassidy Callahan with 14:57 left in the game. Washington junior midfielder Melanie Ruppert (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) fired in a goal off an assist from sophomore midfielder Alli Luchey (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) with 13:02 on the clock to make it 10-7 and the Shorewomen held off the Ducks the rest of the way. Jakub and Ruppert each finished with two goals to join Beane as multiple-goal scorers for the Shorewomen. Gallagher added one goal and one assist, while Luchey tallied two assists. Senior midfielder Erin Bollinger (Perry Hall, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) and freshman attacker Sally Mancini (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) each scored one goal, while sophomore midfielder Jenna Gouck (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) and sophomore attacker Megan Rainey (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding) tallied one assist each. Liz Mather led Stevens with three goals. Dana Perriello added two goals, while Liz Mather notched a goal and an assist and Scott finished with one goal. Joanna Sweetgall and Kaitlyn Roes each recorded an assist for the Ducks. Junior goalie Mollie Binotto (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) made 12 saves in the win for Washington. Stephanie Linder made 14 stops for Stevens. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at McDaniel. |
