St. Mary's (MD) Defeats Washington, 18-8
Jakub and Sampson Net Two Goals Each for WC

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- 11th ranked St. Mary's (MD) scored five unanswered goals in the first 9:27 of play en route to an 18-8 victory over host Washington College in women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Kirby Stadium. The Seahawks improved to 3-0 overall with the win, while the Shorewomen slipped to 2-1 with the loss.

After the Seahawks took a 5-0 lead to start the game, the Shorewomen responded with goals from junior midfielder Melanie Ruppert (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and senior midfielder Erin Bollinger (Perry Hall, MD/Inst. of Notre Dame) to cut the Seahawks advantage to 5-2. St. Mary's would score four of the next five goals to take a 9-3 lead into the break. The Seahawks momentum carried into the second half. The visitors took full control of the game by scoring seven of the first nine goals in the half to build a 16-5 lead, putting the game out of reach for the Shorewomen.

Freshman attack Suzie Jakub (University Park, MD/St. John's College (DC) and junior midfielder Lauren Sampson (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) each netted two goals for the Shorewomen, while junior attack Abby Chrismer (Darlington, MD/John Carroll) added one goal and two assists in the loss.

The Seahawks were led by four goals from Danielle Miller, while Becca Christoffersen notched three goals and three assists. Katy Perry had six assists and one goal, while Emily Norris tallied three goals for St. Mary's.

St. Mary's forced 22 Washington turnovers while only committing 15. The Seahawks had 14 successful clears on 16 attempts, while the Shorewomen only had seven clears on 15 attempts.

The Shorewomen return to action Monday at 4:00 p.m. for their Centennial Conference opener at home game against Ursinus.
