March 10, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College jumped out to a 7-0 lead en route to a 15-10 victory over visiting Guilford College in non-conference women's lacrosse action this afternoon at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Shorewomen improved to 3-2 on the season with the victory, while the Quakers slipped to 2-2 with the loss. Washington senior midfielder Erin Bollinger (Perry Hall, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) found freshman attacker Suzie Jakub (University Park, MD/St. John's College, DC) for a goal with 11:38 left in the first half to give the Shorewomen their 7-0 lead. Washington held an 8-2 advantage at halftime. The Quakers opened the second half on a 4-1 run, capped off by a Jordan Clodfelter goal with 21:38 remaining which cut the lead to 9-6. The Shorewomen answered by scoring six of the next seven goals in the contest to put the game away, extending the lead to 15-7 after Bollinger found junior midfielder Melanie Ruppert (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) for a goal with 4:26 left in the contest. Jakub and junior attacker Caitlin Beane (University Park, MD/Elizabeth Seton) each finished with three goals in the game for the Shorewomen, while Bollinger and Ruppert each tallied two goals and two assists. Freshman attacker Sally Mancini (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) scored two goals, while junior attacker Abby Chrismer (Darlington, MD/John Carroll), sophomore attacker Megan Rainey (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding), and freshman defender Sarah Pearce (Ligonier, PA/Oldfields, MD) each scored one goal. Pearce's goal was the first of her collegiate career. Sophomore midfielder Jenna Gouck (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) added two assists, while freshman midfielder Brittany Lambert (Riva, MD/South River) contributed one assist. Clodfelter and Caryn Washington each scored three goals to lead the Quakers. Jennifer Abelin scored two goals, while Carolyn Rodda and Lydia Fakes each scored one goal. Mary Hutchins and Billie Pellerito tallied one assist each for Guilford. Junior goalie Mollie Binotto (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) played the first 53:56 for the Shorewomen and made 14 saves while allowing seven goals. G DeCherney made 11 saves in goal for the Quakers. Washington held a 36-30 advantage in shots in the game and a 34-31 edge in ground balls. The Shorewomen held an 18-8 advantage in draw controls, including a 12-3 margin in the second half. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. game against Puget Sound at the "Spring Fling" in West Palm Beach, FL. |
