Goucher Outscores WC, 21-15
Mancini Tallies Three Goals, Assist in Loss

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Goucher College scored the first six goals of the second half to take control of the game in a 21-15 victory over host Washington College in a non-conference women's lacrosse game this afternoon at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Gophers improved to 5-3 with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 5-6 with the loss.

The Gophers held a 12-8 lead at the half before reeling off their six straight goals to open the second period. Katie Deming found Whitney Groseclose for the final goal of the spurt with 23:59 left to give Goucher an 18-8 lead. Goucher led by at least eight goals the rest of the half until the final minute of the game when the Shorewomen scored the final two goals of the contest.

Katie Knitter finished with five goals and one assist for the Gophers, while Katie Deming tallied four goals and three assists and Emily Blatter and Whitney Groseclose fired in four goals and recorded one assist each. Laura Webbert made 15 saves in goal for Goucher.

Freshman attacker Sally Mancini (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep), freshman attacker Suzie Jakub (University Park, MD/St. John's College, DC), sophomore midfielder Jenna Gouck (Randolph, NJ/Randolph), and sophomore attacker Megan Rainey (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding) each scored three goals for the Shorewomen. Mancini also tallied one assist. Freshman defender Sarah Pearce (Ligonier, PA/Oldfields, MD) and sophomore defender Laura Rickus (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) each recorded their first career assist in the loss.

The two teams combined for 75 shots in the game with Goucher holding a 40-35 advantage. The Gophers also held slight advantages in ground balls (28-27) and draw controls (19-18).

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Bryn Mawr.
