March 15, 2005 STEVENSON, MD -- Sophomore attacker/midfielder Melanie Ruppert (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) scored four goals to lead a balanced offense as the Washington College women's lacrosse team defeated host Villa Julie, 17-9, this afternoon in Stevenson, MD. The Shorewomen, who got at least one goal from 10 different players, improved to 2-2 with the win, while the Mustangs slipped to 1-2 with the loss. Junior midfielder/attacker Erin Bollinger (Perry Hall, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) scored three goals and senior attacker Lindsey Eichner (Raritan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) and sophomore attacker/midfielder Megan Block (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) each scored two to join Ruppert as multiple-goal scorers for the Shorewomen. Eichner also tallied two assists. Senior defender Tarra Boulden (Newark, DE/Tower Hill), junior attacker Liddy Campbell (Chestertown, MD/Gunston Day School), freshman attacker Jess Martin (Westminster, MD/Francis Scott Key), and sophomore attacker/midfielder Lauren Sampson (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) each tallied one goal and one assist for Washington, while junior attacker Kelly Gallagher (Columbus, OH/Dublin Scioto) and freshman attackman Megan Rainey (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding) each scored one goal. Rainey's and Martin's goals were the first of their collegiate careers, while Martin and Campbell each recorded their first career assist. Colleen Baumann led Villa Julie with three goals and one assist, while Beth Krastel added two goals and Janet McKinnon recorded one goal and two assists. Sophomore goalie Mollie Binotto (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) played the first 46 minutes of the game for Washington and made seven saves while allowing five goals. Sophomore goalie Nanna Kozemchak (Falls Church, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) played the final 14 minutes, making two saves and allowing four goals. Nikki Miller made 13 saves for the Mustangs. The Shorewomen are back in action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. game at Catholic. |
